White paper published to help UK merchants combat online fraud in the UK
'Tackling fraud is no longer an option - it's a necessity' concludes industry endorsed CyberSource 2001 white paper
London 25 April, 2001
To give merchants the information they need in the battle against online fraud a white paper entitled 'Combating online fraud in the UK' has been published by CyberSource Corporation (Nasdaq: CYBS), a leading provider of mission-critical eCommerce transaction software and services.
"The aim of the white paper is to inform merchants of the latest research and standards that can help combat fraud in the UK," said Neil Cook, managing director of CyberSource UK. "We were astounded by the results of our 2000 UK fraud survey which showed that 39% of merchants still didn't know they are liable when fraud takes place. Given that Experian's 2000 research stated 40% of UK online retailers had suffered repeat attacks by the same fraudster and UPAQ's recent survey discovered that 95% of users expect to become victims of Internet fraud, this is of real concern."
"Online fraud is mainly preventable, but it is essential for merchants to stay abreast of this virulent and rapidly evolving threat. CyberSource is the market leader in online fraud prevention and its new white paper, 'Combating Online Fraud in the UK', is a 'must read' for every online merchant," said James Roper, chief executive of the IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group). "CyberSource's Internet Fraud Screen helps merchants to trade securely and efficiently on the Internet - so that their turnover contributes to their bottom line, not to lining fraudsters' pockets."
