CyberSource Releases New Payer Authentication Service

Service Supports Both Visa and MasterCard Cardholder Verification Programs Providing Merchants Guaranteed Payment For Online Transactions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., September 16, 2002

CyberSource Corporation (Nasdaq: CYBS), a leading provider of electronic payment and risk management solutions for enterprise businesses, today announced the planned release of its new Payer Authentication Service in the United States and United Kingdom on September 25, 2002 - the first service to provide merchants "no hassle" access to both Visa's "Verified by Visa" and MasterCard International's authentication program, as well as complementary fraud protection services.

The Verified by Visa cardholder-authentication service, based on the 3-D Secure standard, deters unauthorized card use and provides chargeback protection for participating merchants. MasterCard's authentication program is based on the Universal Cardholder Authentication Field (UCAF), which supports a broad spectrum of issuer security solutions and offers similar cardholder and merchant protections. The new CyberSource Payer Authentication Service provides access to these cardholder authentication services through a single, convenient connection, making it easier for merchants to rapidly implement and maintain secure payment capability.

"Our goal was to make merchant adoption of these valuable programs as easy and effective as possible," said Jeff King, Director of Product Management for CyberSource. "By using the CyberSource Payer Authentication Service, merchants can make use of the programs quickly and also access complementary fraud screening services. All it takes is a connection to our data centers - there's no software to install or manage; and, as system specifications change, or new verification services are introduced by other card brands, we manage the changes. The merchant's systems aren't impacted."

Because effective fraud control requires a multi-faceted approach, CyberSource fraud screening services are also available through this same connection. These services complement the protection offered by Visa and MasterCard programs, as well as reliably controlling fraud risk on transactions involving card brands not yet offering authentication services. The CyberSource Payer Authentication Service can be used in conjunction with a merchant's existing payment system, or accessed in combination with CyberSource payment services for a single, authenticated payment solution.
