The Cybersource payment application for Shopify has been submitted and approved for usage as of January 2025.

At this point in time Shopify have requested that installations are limited to new installs to ensure we do not overwhelm their teams. We're aware of the upcoming SOAP API key EOL date and if an extension is required we will request this on behalf of Shopify merchants.

notifications will go out to merchants directly to ask them to migrate and validate the integration as well as being provided with a deadline for migration.

Any further deadlines or requests to migrate will be communicated directly to merchants via email from Cybersource and the Shopify Admin Portal.

As part of the migration, we highly recommend merchants to validate all aspects of the integration. The new integration is on an entirely new Shopify architecture required for all Payment Providers going forward therefore aspects of the integration will change including fields sent/received and how payments interact with 3rd party applications.

The legacy integration and the new integration are entirely different in their API requests and architecture, therefore any authorizations/captures processed on the legacy integration will need to be captured/refunded through the legacy integration.

When a transaction is created a Shopify Payment ID is generated and stored against the order within the Shopify Admin Panel, to find this value:

  • Access the specific order and expand the section “…Payment was processed on Cybersource”,
  • There will be an additional section for “information from the gateway”, where you can see the value.

Within Cybersource Business Center you can then view the Shopify Payment.ID transaction by searching for this Payment.ID in the Merchant Reference Number field. This field is available on generated reports to simplify reconciliation

There are known changes in the Shopify architecture that are impacting merchants:

  • RequestID visibility in Shopify – Going forward Shopify do not allow 3rd Party identifiers to be returned, all external interactions and reconciliation will need to be completed against the PaymentID
  • 3rd party applications interactions may be impacted due to enforced PaymentID change
  • Fraud management data filters and review status handling – At release there will be a 15 minute review limit placed upon the integration, we advise all merchants to have transactions coming from Shopify to be in an Accept/Reject flow only. We’re working closely with Shopify to have them extend this timeframe
  • Request/response Field limitations – Shopify control all data fields to and from Payment Providers under the new architecture. For enhancements to these fields please raise a support request with Shopify
  • Payment logos in checkout – Previously Shopify provided an automated way to have the Card Types enabled in the Back Office show immediately in the checkout. This is not supported under their new architecture so need to be added manually
